Noblewomen Reframed
The "Noblewomen Reframed" series, inspired by 18th-century portraiture encountered during my time in Spain, particularly at the Prado Museum, delves into the complex interplay of status, colonial legacies, and gender constructs. Currently, this series comprises small, three-dimensional porcelain reliefs that highlight intricate details such as lace, gemstones, and elaborate hairstyles—symbols of colonial-era status. By detaching these elements from specific identities, I underscore the paradoxical insignificance of the female subjects despite their apparent status in patriarchy. The pieces are framed in fish tins and cement slabs, creating a dialogue between historical aesthetics and contemporary contexts.
